Youth Alive has had many foreign volunteers over the years come to visit and support us. We are currently developing a more substantial, in depth volunteer programme but are pleased to welcome volunteers in the meantime.
We are often dismayed when we see various "voluntourism" gap year companies that charge extortionate amounts for a few months of voluntary work, with a tiny proportion of this money actually reaching the project. In fact, often the projects appear poorly thought through and unsustainable. Instead, we have worked with some more reputable volunteer organisations to offer placements but you are also welcome to contact us directly.
Youth Alive have many areas where volunteers could be true assets, doing useful work with any funds raised making an important difference directly to our work. We are also in a fantastic place for an adventure working abroad. Ghana is a warm, friendly, English speaking country, seen as an island of stability in Africa where other countries have had many security problems. There is a rich culture to experience; the colourful Kente cloth, traditional dance, a vibrant music scene and many traditional practices still observed. As well as the great tourist places to visit, including Mole Safari Park, Rainforests, waterfalls, beautiful beaches and the former coast forts.
